Current River Conservation Area

Driving Directions

There are three entrances. One is located 3 miles west of Ellington on Highway 106. Another is located on South Road in Ellington. The other is located on Reynolds County Road 626.

Highlights

This is a predominantly forest area. Facilities/features: picnic area, fishing jetties, Buford Pond (three acres, fishable), Blue Spring Natural Area (17 acres), Cardareva Bluff Natural Area (95 aces), and a permanent stream (Current River).

Bicycling  No designated trails, but area access roads open to vehicles are also open to mountain bikes. 
Bird Watching  Get the Audubon Society of Missouri Conservation Area Bird List. Designated an Important Bird Area by Audubon Missouri.  
Camping - Primitive Area  Except where restricted by posting. No amenities are provided. 
Camping - Walk-in/Float-in/Backpack  Seasonal closures may apply. See area regulations. 
Demonstrations  Have 40 acres of food plots on the area. Forest management activities are done on a scheduled basis. 
Fishing - Bass Fair population. Regulations differ between streams and impoundments. In Buford Pond, largemouth bass are common-fishing fair. In the Current River, smallmouth bass are the most common and fishing is good.  
Fishing - Catfish Fair population. Buford Pond is stocked occasionaly with channel catfish.  
Fishing - Goggle-eye Fair population. In the Current River. 
Fishing - Other Good population. Suckers in Current River. 
Hiking  There is a 1.5 mile walking path from Deer Run Fire Tower to Buford Pond. Also good hiking on area access trails.
