About This Area

The Jay Henges Shooting Range & Outdoor Education Center is on the west side of the Forest 44 Conservation Area located in southwest St. Louis County. Originally under the Missouri Department of Conservation's Forestry Division, the range was named Forest 44 Shooting Range, coined from the Conservation Area in which it was built on in 1993. In 1997, it was dedicated and renamed after former Missouri Department of Conservation Commissioner and St. Louis area resident, Jay Henges. In 2003, supervision of the range was transferred to the Department's Outreach and Education Division.

The complex includes a 100-yard, baffled, rifle/pistol range with 20 covered booths with target placements at 7, 15, 25, 50, 75 or 100 yards. Additional facilities include 3 trap fields, a shotgun patterning range, a 4 target static archery range and a 15 target walk-through archery range. The Jay Henges complex provides a safe environment for novice to experienced shooters.
