About This Area

Lake Girardeau Conservation Area is near Crump in Cape Girardeau County, 14 miles southwest of Jackson on Route U and Route RA.

The Conservation Department acquired this 351-acre area in 1962 and constructed a 162-acre lake here in 1964. The lake features two disabled-accessible fishing piers and a concrete boat ramp and offers good fishing for bass, bluegill, catfish and crappie.

  • A 162 acre fishing lake with camping and picnic areas. Concrete boat ramp with dock. Two large floating docks.
  • Deer Hunting: Only archery methods may be used. Deer hunting with firearms is prohibited. Deer regulations are subject to annual changes. Please refer to the Fall Deer and Turkey Booklet for current regulations.
  • Turkey Hunting: Turkey regulations are subject to annual changes. Please refer to the Spring Turkey or Fall Deer and Turkey Booklet for current regulations.
  •  Waterfowl hunting is prohibited.
  • Fishing: All crappie less than nine inches (9") total length must be returned to the water unharmed immediately after being caught. The daily limit for crappie shall be fifteen (15).

Bird Watching  Occasionally, eagles can be viewed during the winter. Blue Herons are common. Get the Audubon Society of Missouri Conservation Area Bird List.  
Camping - Individual Campsites  Primitive camping available in Lake Girardeau Camping Area. BBQ grills, picnic tables, gravel parking pads. No electricity or water hook ups. 
Canoeing  Outboard motors in excess of 10 horsepower must be run at a no-wake speed. 
Fishing - Bass Good population.  
Fishing - Catfish Good population.  
Fishing - Crappie Good population.  
Fishing - Sunfish Good population. Bluegill and redear sunfish 
Hiking  No designated trails. One fishing/walking path which follows most of the shoreline between the dam and the Route U parking lot.
