Gallatin Conservation Area

Driving Directions

From Gallatin, take Highway 13 south 5 miles, then Route M east 0.50 mile.


This area contains forest, grassland, old fields, cropland, wetlands, and savanna.

About This Area

Gallatin Conservation Area is in Daviess County, five miles south of Gallatin on Highway 13 and a half mile east on Route M. Approximately 40 percent of the area consists of timber, brushy draws and fencerows. A 10-acre marsh is located in the north part of the area.

Because of its size and diversity, Gallatin Conservation Area is managed for a wide range of game and non-game wildlife species. The area is available to the public for a variety of outdoor activities.

Management of the area includes planting foodplots, haying, and controlled burning, in addition to the development of wildlife habitat by tree, shrub, and grass plantings.

Other Rifle Shooting Range  This range has three shooting positions that range from 25 yards to 200 yards.  This is the longest rifle range in Northern Missouri.  You will need to bring your own paper targets as they are not provided.  Anything other than paper targets will be considered litter.  This is an unstaffed range and should be used with care.  Read all rule signs before shooting.  
Other Shotgun Shooting Range  This area has a patterning board and platform for shooting thrown targets.  Paper for patterning and throwers and targets are not provided.  Anything other than approved targets will be considered litter.  This is an unstaffed range and should be used with care.  Read all rule signs before shooting.
