Driving Directions

From Bolivar, take South Springfield Avenue (Highway 83) south across Highway 13, then E 473rd Road (Evans Road) west about 1 mile.


This is a Designated Natural Area.

About This Area

Owned by the Missouri Prairie Foundation, La Petite Gemme Prairie CA is a designated Natural Area. It is managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

It consists of remnant prairie and has an abandoned railroad right-of-way that is part of the Highline Trail, which runs from Bolivar to Springfield.

The area is managed with prescribed burning to maintain the diversity of plants and to inhibit competition from woody species.

  • No hunting allowed on area.
  • Horseback riding is prohibited.

Bird Watching  A variety of grassland birds can be observed on the area. Get the Audubon Society of Missouri Conservation Area Bird List.  
Nature Viewing  Many species of wildflowers can be seen during the summer months.
