Little Bean Marsh Conservation Area

Driving Directions

From Kansas City, take Highway 45 north 30 miles, then Westside Drive west to access area.


This area contains forest and wetlands. Facilities/features: viewing blind, viewing deck, Bean Lake (a 400-acre oxbow), Little Bean Marsh Natural Area. The area is visited by migrating white pelicans.

(Population Definition)
Bird Watching  The area has seasonally good birding depending on water levels. Waterfowl, marsh and shorebirds, wading birds and songbirds can be seen. Designated an Important Bird Area by Audubon Missouri. Get the Audubon Society of Missouri Conservation Area Bird List.  
Highlighted Activities  Waterfowl migration (Spring and Fall) 
Hiking  Two asphalt disabled accessible trails provide access to the area. One trail is 0.5 miles in length and leads to a viewing platform overlooking the freshwater marsh. The other trail is 200 yards in length and leads to a viewing blind overlooking Cottonwood Slough. Both trails begin at the parking lot. 
Hunting-Deer Fair population. Deer regulations are subject to annual changes. Please refer to the Fall Deer and Turkey Booklet for current regulations.  
Hunting-Rabbit Fair population. Non-toxic shot required for all game species. 
Hunting-Squirrel Fair population. Non-toxic shot required for all game species. 
Hunting-Waterfowl-Open Hunting Fair population. Non-toxic shot required for all game species.
